The town of Ballyfin, Co. Laois is associated with the the legendary warrior Fionn Mac Cumhaill. Its name in Irish – Bhaile Fhinn, can be translated as “the town of Fionn”.

Whether born and/or raised here, the story goes that he was raised and received his education in the foothills of the nearby Slieve Bloom mountains.
